After witnessing several aborted mating attempts yesterday, we were very happy to see Astrid and Ares mate at the box early this morning.

Remaining Close to the Box
Today was a calmer and wetter day than yesterday. There were no exciting chase scenes – thankfully. For the most part the pair kept close to vicinity of the nest box. Ares caught prey for his mate at least 3 times. Later in the afternoon Astrid and Ares performed a courtship display at the box. Here’s the video:
Today’s warmer weather = plenty of action!!
This morning was very active – we heard and/or saw about three aborted mating attempts
Maybe breakfast was what Astrid wanted!!
Whatever that was I guess Astrid approved because Astrid and Ares finally mated!
However the action was not over – poor Ares had to defend off this very persistent intruder!
March 7th – A day of Dancing and Food Offerings
Astrid and Ares spent a lot of time bonding in the box and around the canyon today. Ares brought food to Astrid at least three times. Mating was only verified once today but with all the other activities their behavior is very much in sync with normal mating habits.
March 6th Utica Peregrine Falcon Update
It was yet another active day for the Utica Peregrines. Two early morning matings at the nest box and two food exchanges took place. The pair continues to show great fidelity to the nest box. They keep close tabs on it throughout the day. It’s highly likely that interlopers in search of their own territory will be coming into the canyon in the coming weeks. It will be Astrid and Ares’ top priority to keep control over the site. No doubt there are to be some exciting times ahead!
