Still Plenty of Action With the Utica Peregrines

A month after fledgling and our 3 young Peregrine Falcons continue to been seen in their Urban Canyon. A few of our falcon watchers have continued visiting Downtown to witness the aerial feats of these now accomplished fliers. Although a least one of the youngsters has been seen in a practice dive (called a stoop), we have not been able to confirm that any one of the 3 has captured prey for themselves. The way they continue to beg and harass their parents seems to indicate that they still rely on them for food, but no doubt that is soon to change. Meanwhile individuals continue to visit the nestbox at unpredictable intervals. Yesterday Leda made 2 visits. It was evident that she had been eating well lately since her throat was bulging (in other words, she had a full crop).

    1. Hi Annie, Actually we had to discontinue our subscription to the service that provides our streaming video. It’s fairly expensive to maintain and since we can expect there to be little falcon action at the box – at least until next spring, we thought it best to concentrate on raising funds for next year’s streaming budget and for other upgrades. It’s possible that we may get the feed back up in the short term if we’re able to figure out a cheaper way of doing it. We shall see.

  1. Still see the family doing downtown fly-abouts but can’t tell mom and dad from the kids! Are they all still here in Utica?

    1. Hi Matt,

Yes they are all still here! It can be tough to tell them apart when they are flying. We will be sure to update everyone once they leave to head South. I did see all 5 of them this morning!
